(Amphead)
Dust out the shed, this one’s for getting drunk and stupid to. Winny Blue packet optional.
Levon’s Crown originated in New Zealand and have slowly been claimed by Australia as our own. I was unaware of this, but after listening to their most recent release, it sounds like a better purchase than Evermore or Shihad. The Stomp is exactly as it should be, a boogie-woogie opener mashing thick barre chords with fist-pumping choruses into a good-times anthem, followed by the garage bounce of Skinny Moon. Gimme Love begins with a lusciously groovy Rhodes Keyboard before bursting into some strutting wah-wah and a pulsing foot on the bass drum. I kinda figured that Too Many Times would have been the requisite ‘let’s slow things down for a little bit’ song, as they decide to get a little bit anthemic and crank up the echo and clean tones on everything that isn’t bolted down. Expected, but pretty nonetheless. But the sexy solos and gospel choir vocals on finale Freedom show their true talents as able purveyors of revival rock.
