What happens when a culture tries to dominate the world?

Throughout time, the Romans, the Spanish, the English and the Americans have tried to manipulate humanity into a unified culture, but under whose authority and at what cost?

THE PRIVATE LIFE OF THE MASTER RACE is a stylised examination of ordinary citizens who are swept up by Nationalist pride. Written by iconic playwright Bertolt Brecht before the outbreak of WWII, the play shows the plight of the German working class under the rise of the Nazi regime.  Their stories demonstrate the pathos, humour and burden of a people convinced and cajoled into becoming a war machine for their leader.  As the furore surrounding the Fuehrer increases the realisation that no one is safe from suspicion, implication and elimination creates a mood of stifling oppression.

The Queensland Academy for Creative Industries is proud to present this piece as its first graduate showcase. Directors Stephen Matthias and Simon Tate are collaborating in this provocative production. Using contemporary physical theatre they are carving out characters etched with the fear and misery of the Third Reich.  The set design by Peter Fenoglio features an ominous cube as the pivotal locus of power, on to which will be projected a montage of spectacular filmic and lighting images designed by Jason Organ.  With original sound design by Dane Alexander (Deep Blue) this show promises to be an innovative and visceral theatrical experience expressing issues that continue to resonate.  Within this arena, our strong cast of emerging artists will establish themselves as 22 of the state’s most talented young performers.

The production will be the inaugural performance at QACI’s new multimillion-dollar theatre venue at 61 Musk Avenue in the Kelvin Grove Urban Precinct. Showing from Wednesday 4th to Saturday the 7th of June with a school’s performance on Friday the 6th of June.

For bookings and show times call QTIX 136 246.
