The Tivoli - Thu May 22
Kisschasy are taking the Bones & Skin tour around the country before unleashing their brand of pop-rock on the U.S.A.
Fellow Melbournites The Getaway Plan get things started with their screamo-infused alt-rock tunes and engaging melodies. The falsetto-laden hit Streetlight is their best, and the high-impact set concludes with Red Flag and Where The City Meets The Sea.
Doing their bit to spread the girl-rock gospel, Californian quartet The Donnas rock out with a brilliant stage presence and glam-metal solos in every song. The devoted fans sing along to Take It Off and Wasted. However, the overly-clean vocals rob the well-constructed songs of their bite and despite some fine musicianship the overall effect is Shania Twain meets Poison.
Kisschasy kick off with My Bible Is A Scrapbook, and their live sound is better and more forceful than on their albums. The refined and energetic performance includes most of Hymns For The Nonbeliever and the best of their older material. Frontman Darren Cordeux hides behind his sweat-drenched fringe, and shows off his vocal prowess in solo acoustic numbers The Shake and Black Dress. Highlights Strings And Drums and Face Without A Name get the crowd worked up and the intensity builds to a crescendo of Opinions Won't Keep You Warm At Night and Spray On Pants.
Lookout America, Kisschasy are coming.
