Classic hard-edged rock, endorsed by Slash

Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if Slash became a permanent member of Zico Chain, they certainly seem to be quite enamoured by him and his music. Things that initially sound infuriatingly trite during album opener Pretty Pictures become more and more endearing as Food continues, making for an album that is actually pretty good by the end, as long as you like hard rock with only one speed-setting. The clichéd rock riffs, the lyrical content of cold bitches and barfights, the guitarist who has been listening to Appetite For Destruction exclusively since its release … it’s all here. But then bassist Chris Clithero manages to detail everything that has been horrible about rock vocals in the last 20 years. At times he resembles Gavin Rossdale, during other moments it’s more like Scott Weiland, like he was aiming for Lemmy but couldn’t get the growl quite right. Don’t expect hard rock to make much of a comeback soon, if this is its saviour.
