Struggling to enter the mortgage market? Don’t quite qualify for a home loan? Who needs a house when your cash would be much better invested in the local art scene! This Thursday June 12 launches the grand opening of the Joshua Levi Galleries @ the Old Antique Shop in Woolloongabba. This former second-hand furniture store (and one-time homicide crime scene) has been revamped into a chic duplex gallery space – one half devoted to original artworks from emerging Queensland artists and the other half specialising in limited-edition prints. The brain-child behind the operation is local photographer Joshua Collings, who explains that prints are a smart purchase for Brisbane’s burgeoning art-collecting scene with the desire to invest but not the huge expendable income to back it up. “Not everyone can afford a $5,000 or $20,000 picture,” Collings notes, “What a limited-edition print run allows the investor to do, is to purchase something that is affordable, yet is still one of a limited set which will retain and/or increase in value, and enables them to have that connection with a particular piece of artwork that has changed their life.” If you’re keen to check it all out, head over to the opening on Thursday at 7pm, 4 Ipswich Road, Woolloongabba.
Featured musical acts include Brisbane singer/songwriter Madeleine Paige (pictured), Luke Foran, and Berlington St Sessions. For more information phone: 3392 2220 or www.joshualevigalleries.com.au
