Powderfinger and BigPond give music fans an Australian first For the first time in Australian music history, fans of Powderfinger can use the internet to legally download the previous night’s concert within 24 hours of the performance finishing. The service, available exclusively from BigPond Music, comes after a new survey revealed a massive 70 per cent of generations X and Y said they would jump at the chance to buy an audio recording after seeing a gig.1 “It’s really exciting for us as a band to be able to play such an intimate gig while giving people all over the world the opportunity to tune in to BigPond, check it out and then own the audio within 24 hours after the gig,” Jon Coghill of Powderfinger said. BigPond Group Managing Director, Justin Milne, said Powderfinger’s performance will be the first time individual tracks or the entire performance of BigPond’s weekly online concert, called Monday Night Live, can be purchased the next day. “Our leading technology means fans can watch the performance live online at BigPond.com or on a Next G™ mobile and the following day the BigPond Music store will now have the entire gig plus selected individual songs available for download,” Mr Milne said. “BigPond has been a leader in legal music downloads in this country and we are proud to be pioneering another first for lovers of Australian music,” he said.
Powderfinger’s Upstairs at the Downstairs performance for Monday Night Live can be purchased at BigPond Music from Tuesday 10 June. BigPond customers can purchase the tracks for $1.49 and the album for $15.00; non-BigPond customers can purchase tracks for $1.69 and the album for $16.50. Note: Monday Night Live performances are available to view at no additional charge to anyone with a broadband connection at www.bigpondmusic.com, and BigPond customers will not have the data counted towards their usage allowance. On Telstra Next G™ mobiles, the cost per concert live is $2.95. Shortly after the live concert a selection of audio tracks from the performance will be made available for Dual Download on Telstra Next G™ mobiles at $2.99 per track and via BigPond.com from $1.49 per track. A selection of video excerpts from the performance will also be made available for download on Telstra Next G™ mobiles at $3.50.
1 The research was commissioned by BigPond and conducted by PureProfile from 27-29 May, 2008. The sample included 500 Generation X and 500 Generation Y Australians across all states and territories.
