INFORMER: Trailer Trash Tattoo
Tuesday, 17 June 2008
On the neat ideas scale transforming a 1959 retro Qualicraft trailer into a mobile boutique tattoo studio is definitely in the awesome zone. Local tattooist MIMSY, who has inked many a Brisbanite, recently opened her Trailer Trash Tattoo, the newest emporium of inkery. The vintage trailer is fully fitted out retro style with black and white check floor, pastel decorated furnishings and an altogether nostalgic ‘50s feel. INFORMER investigates.
What inspired the idea of turning a 50’s caravan into a tattoo studio?
I've always had a passion for the design style of the ‘50s and ‘60s and had longed for a trailer of that era. It just seemed natural that I should want do tattoos out of it.
Will you be taking the trailer out to any places, festivals etc?
The Trailer will be open for business only at a few exclusive events throughout the year. It will be making its debut at Greasefest which will be held at Davies Park in West End, on August 2 and 3. Bookings are available for the two days trading we will be attending.
How did you get into tattooing?
I was very fortunate to have the encouragement and support of some fine tattoo artists from an early stage in my career. The progression for me from artist to tattoo artist felt like something that was meant to be. I started by going along with friends to watch them get designs I had drawn inked on and feeling like I wanted to have a part I the whole process. So I decided to learn how to tattoo.
What’s your favourite tattoo that you’ve inked?
It would be very hard to recall a 'favourite' tattoo that I have done - I am more focused on future work than looking back at completed work.
Who is your main clientele?
I tattoo people from varied walks of life, age and size - anyone and everyone!!
Any words of advice for those thinking of getting their first tattoo?
Mainly, the first thing you need to do is make an appointment at Mimsys' Trailer Trash Tattoo and ill prepare you for your second one...
