Sydney’s We Love Sounds guru gives us more sounds to love

Since you all pay so much attention my opinions of electronic music, I don’t need to remind anyone about how much I like the Balance series. And Mr Ben Korbel is certainly not one without skills; Electric 03 proves he knows that you gotta use a shovel if you want to find the best house. The one complaint I have with the mix is its ebb and flow. Granted, Ben’s only got one disc to play with, but pushing it in and holding the lid shut is not the way to fly with only eighty minutes on the clock. Early progressive energy quickly drops onto gagged tech - that would make a dancefloor stagnant if it happened at 1am. But when it’s on, it’s very, very good; deep, groovy, and decidedly underground beats, stripped and ready for a sordid all-nighter in the club. Some comps should be airy; this one should’ve been a throbber with the nonsense thrown out.
